What you should expect

For some people, their first visit to Specific Chiropractic Health Center is their first visit to a chiropractic office ever, so there is some level of anxiety that can be associated with it. To help alleviate this, we like to tell people upfront what they should expect.

The First Visit - Many people's first impression to our office is one of unique warmth and comfort. We strive very hard to make people feel relaxed from the moment they walk through our doors. In order to conduct a full and comprehensive assessment of your condition, we have some health intake forms that we ask you to fill out so that you have the opportunity to make sure that all of your health concerns can be addressed. Once that is completed, then you will receive a consultation with one of the doctors where you can now talk about the health concerns that you have. This is an excellent opportunity for you to discuss your concerns with someone who will listen and begin to help you understand why you are having the problems that you are having. After listening, the doctors can then offer you information about if and how we may be able to help you. This is then followed up with a comprehensive examination that focuses not only on the area of complaint, but also the body as a whole. Each case is unique and different, but everyone will receive a thorough examination. If appropriate, x-rays and thermal scans can be taken to see the extent your condition is having on the structure and physiology of the body. The first visit usually takes between 45 minutes to an hour.

The Second Visit - Usually, the second visit is the visit that we present our Report of Findings. This is important as it gives us an opportunity to assess all the information that we have collected, and develop a systematic approach to correcting your problem. During this visit, we would discuss any findings that we found during the examination or x-rays, as well as educate you about proper spinal care (or extremity care, if applicable). We spend a considerable amount of time reviewing "good" posture habits and "bad" posture habits and how they relate to work, home and sleep positions. During this visit, we then begin to implement the systematic approach that we have developed.

Subsequent Visits - Subsequent visits will usually follow the plan that was discussed during the second visit, though modifications are made based on and individual's response to care. Often times, we are able to incorporate more into subsequent visits so that we can realize quicker improvements with your case; conversely, there are some situations where we may have to slow down our approach if the patients is not responding the way we expected. In either situation, each person is unique and their care will reflect what is best for them.

Re-examinations - once every 12 - 15 visits, we conduct re-examinations to see how the patient's health compares to their initial presentation. This takes into account subjective (what you tell us) and objective (what we see) findings. This is also the time when we routinely assess whether any changes in the careplan need to be made.

Maintenance Care - Once a patient has reached a level of care where there is minimal subjective complaints and objective findings, they are promoted to a level of care that helps them maintain this improved level of health that they have attained. This is referred to as "Maintenance Care".
